A Study on the Factors of the Food Intake Behavior:Differences of Food Image of Women Junior College Students according to District Groups

In order to investigate the food image regarded as the important factor in food intake behaviour, the image of 12 kinds of food of 933 junior college students was analysed by the S. D. method in 7 districts (Yonezawa, Tokyo, Nagoya, Nara, Himeji, Takamatsu and Kagoshima) and district groups were compared.The findings were as follows:1) Hen's egg was rated as "to be suitable to all tastes" and variation of its image according to the district groups was little.2) The food images in Yonezawa showed a special character as compared with the other 6 districts. The images of macaroni and whale meat had tendency to be "domestic", and that of soybean curd and milk were "to be suitable to all taste". These were stronger than the other districts. It was recognized that the differences of these images were significant. And also images of jack mackerel and merluza were different from those of the other 6 groups.3) Images of beef, pork, chicken and whale meat varied remarkably with district groups and were apt to be rated as "to be suitable to all taste". Image of chicken was "to taste of the peculiar group" in Himeji and Nara, and that of whale meat "to be suitable to all taste" in Himeji and Takamatsu. The image of pork in Tokyo and Yonezawa, and that of beef in Takamatsu, Himeji and Nara were rated as "to be suitable to all taste". The sequential relative coefficient between pork and beef was -0.8.
