Relationship between utilization of vitamin A and protein has been reported by several authors, but direct relation or site of interaction between vitamin A and protein metabolism are not cleared. In this report free amino acids of plasma of rat fed various levels of vitamin A and urine creatinine nitrogen per cent which has shown degree of protein utilization was determined.Young rats were kept for several weeks on a diet deficient in vitamin A. Some were unclosed, others were given adequate (50I.U. daily) a little excessive (1000I.U. daily) or a large excessive (6500I.U. daily) doses of vitamin A acetate. At the various experimental periods, creatinine, nitrogen and glucose (as reducing material) in urine and free phenylalanine, threonine and tyrosine in blood plasma were determined. Creatinine nitrogen per cent not changed at normal, but increased at excessive and decreased at deficient. Plasma free phenylalanine increased in deficient rat. Tyrosine decreased as vitamin A level up, and threonine change was not remarkable though a little decreased in both deficient and excessive. It was considered that changes of plasma free amino acids, creatinine nitrogen per cent and glucose have relation to action of thyroxine and adrenaline according to levels of vitamin A received.
