This study aims at developing a rainfall prediction model for anticipatory release operation, which should be able to pre dict the rainfall about 12 hour ahead. The results of this study are summarized as follows: (1) A multiple regression model for predicting rainfall intensity with the life span longer than eleven hours has been developed. Using infrared data of the GMS (Geostationary Meteorological Satellite). (2) The proposed rainfall prediction model is generalized for multi-point rainfall predictions to give the spacial distribution of hourly rainfall intensity. (3) The proposed models are applied to anticipatory release operation at a dam. Those proposed models are much more useful than the conventional model in which the past 3 hour-average rainfall continues for advanced 6 hours.
