A small scale adiabatic calorimeter usable for less than 2g of sample has been developed in order to measure heat capacity or heat of transition of materials which are difficult to obtain sufficiently in amount for the measurement. The central part and the adiabatic shield part are constracted as small as possible to decrease the total heat capacity of the calorimeter. Sheath thermocouples of 0.5mm outer diameter and sheath heaters were thus used for temperature measurement and for adiabatic control. A micro-computer system was used for the data acquisition and for setting working conditions. This system enables to measure heat capacities almost less than 1% in precision by using 1.8g of sample. Measurement examples are given for heat capacities of NBS-standard alumina and synthetic Cu3BiS3.
