True thymic hyperplasia: a case report.

The thymic hyperplasia is extremely rare and is defined as an increase in the size and weight of a microscopically normal thymus (Levine & Rosai 1978).<BR>This report describes true thymic hyperplasia in a 2-year-old male infant causing a respiratory symptoms by compression of the bronchopulmonary system.<BR>Steroid therapy was ineffective. We performed thymectomy because of repeated respiratory symptoms.<BR>The resected specimen had almost a normal thymic shape, was completely encapsulated, and weighed 230 gm.
