Advanced lung cancer removed by sleeve resectiorn after pre-operative chemotherapy and Nd-YAG laser treatment; a case report.

A 66-year-old male was admitted to our hospital complaining of severe dyspnea because a tumor was completely obstructing the right mainstem bronchus.<BR>Chest X-rays showed atelectasis of the right lung, and bronchoscopic examination showed a tumor consistent with squamous-cell carcinoma. The patient was treated with Nd-YAG laser and one course of pre-operative chemotherapy consisting of cisplatinum and etoposide. A partial response and complete cure of the atelectasis was achieved. The patient then under-went sleeve resection of the right upper lobe and S6 segment. The post-operative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged after receiving a course of post-operaive chemother-apy with cisplatinum and etoposide.
