We describe four male patients treated with closure of a bronchopleural fistula by omental pedicle flap after pneumonectomy. Their ages ranged from 46 to 68 years. Three had squamous cell carcinoma carcinoma and one had adenocarcinoma of the lung. Two patients had an associated pyothorax due to Staphylococcus aureus. Bronchopleural fistulas were successfully closed by a omental pedicle flap in all four patients, even those with pyothorax. Although two patients died of recurrent cancer, we believe the omental pedicle flap is a effective and curative method of closure of bronchopleural fistula after peumonectomy.
