X-ray fluorescence analysis of major and minor elements of manganese ore using powder pellets

A X-ray fluorescence analytical method has been developed for major elements (Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, K, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe) and minor elements(V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) of manganese and manganiferous iron ores. Powder pellets which were prepared by mixing 3.0g of samples and 0.45cc polyvinyl alcohol solution were used. Selection of elements suitable for the matrix factor calculation which include absorption and enhancement effects make possible to determine major and minor elements simultaneously only by powder pellets. The obtained calibration lines cover the wide range of content, 1.9-71 wt.% for Mn, 0.02-41.8wt.% for Fe and 0.01-70.6wt.% for SiO<SUB>2</SUB>.
