1.Two limnological excursions to three brackish water ponds on the dried river-bed near the estuary of the Yosino river were made in 1935, the first in April 3rd and the second in July 23 th (figs. 1-4).<BR>2.At the time of the first visit, the water of the ponds contained. considerable amounts of chlorine (Table I). The plankton consisted of several, brackish-water forms as Sinocalanus tencllus, forms such as Podon leuckarti and freshwater forms such as Keratella quadrata (Table II).<BR>3.At the time of the second visit, the chlorine content of the pond waters was greatly reduced owing to the flood condition of the river caused by the heavy rain fall (Table I). Consequently, an abundance of plankters such as Meaocyclops leuckarti, which are derived front freshwater, were found instead of plankters which originate in brackish, water or the sea.
