The ash of a moss <I>Aplozia crenulata</I> var. <I>gracillima</I>, which grows in the running waters influenced by the hot-springs around the Volcanoes Zawo and Kusatsu-Shirané, contains a great amount of iron (89.1% Fe<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>in a sample). The pH of the river waters is 3.03.8 and iron contained in them fluctuates between 0.360mg/<I>l</I>. It remains in question in what forms of such a large amount of iron is present on or in the moss body.
