Electron Microscopic Studies on the Hepatoma induced by D.A.B. (Dimethylaminoazobenzene) in Rats

Sections of hepatoma induced by feeding Dimethylaminoazobenzene were studied with the electron microscope and following results were obtained.<BR>(1) Nuclei of the tumor cells were much larger than .normal liver cells, showing irregular nuclear membranes and large nucleoli with a dense convoluted structure.<BR>(2) "Intracellular cytoplasmic membrane" (Sjostrand) were scanty. and irregular in the tumor cells.<BR>(3) Mitochondria were decreased in their number and size., compared to those in normal liver cells, and aggregated around the indented area of the nuclear membrane, where a remarkable increase in number of the cytoplasmic granules was observed.<BR>(4) Cell membranes of almost all the tumor cells appeared irregular.
