Various unusual forms of Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae in aging cultures have been observed by the electron microscope and assorted into three types (whirl, granular, and irregular types).
The recognization of intermediate forms between usual and these unusual forms, and the results of the cultivation test intimated the presence of the deformation process of Le icterohaemorrhagiae as described in Fig. 5.
Although the significance of unusual forms was far from clear, these observations suggested that each of the whirl, granular and irregular types was a group of resting stage cells, reproductive bodies, and crumbled cells respectively.
