Desulphurization Method of Dust Pellet during Reduction

The desulphurization method of carbon contained pellet has been investigated by the use of a small rotary furnace. The effects of the reducing gas composition, the induration temperature, and the addition of several desulphrizing agents on the desulphurization ratio were revealed through experiments. The results obtained are summarized as follows.<BR>(1) The desulphurization of the pellet is controled by the transfer of sulphur between solid pellet and desulphurizing agent through gas phase. In the case that hydrogen gas does not exist in the atmosphere COS gas behaves as medium gas, while with the existence of hydrogen gas H2S gas behaves as medium gas.<BR>(2) The high desulphurization ratio is not attained even at elevated temperature of 1190°C under carbon monoxide gas. On the other hand the desulphurization ratio is increased with the injection of hydrogen gas at 1150°C. Therefore the existence of hydrogen is indispensable in order to obtain the high desulphurization ratio of pellet.<BR>(3) A high volatile and low sulphur coal can be utilized as a hydrogen gas source.<BR>(4) Limestone is preferable to dolomite for the desulphurization of pellet.
