A Study on the Separation of Pb/Zn Ores by a Sulphatization-Flotation Method

The separation of galena from sphalerite in a flotation process of complex sulphide ores has usually been carrid out by either a straight differential or a bulk differential flotation method. Cyanides are mainly used as depressant for the separation of Pb/Zn ores. Because of the superiority of cyanides, however, no other depressant has been used until recently. If cyanides are disposed as waste water, it may cause a pollution problem. Accordingly, the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite without the addition of cyanides was investigated in this study as part of intensive studies on the flotation process of complex sulphide ores. In this study, the applicability of the sulphatization process for the differential flotation of Pb/Zn ores was considered. In this method, a Pb/Zn bulk concentrate is partly sulphatized, followed by the depression of galena during sphalerite flotation.
