Based on the survey of the role and the influence of various metal ions such as Fe(III), Fe(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) on PhSO4 flotation with sodium hexadecyl sulphate (SHS) as a collector, the present paper deals with some test works on the synthetic mixture of minute lead sulphate and ferric oxide particles. The results obtained are summarized as follows:<BR>1) Detrimental effects of Fe(III) ions were observed in the pH range of 2-5 for lead sulphate, which was most floatable otherwise. Although Fe(II) ions were harmless at pH 2.0, the depressing effect appeared as the pH value was increased. Other ions such as Zn(II) and Cu(II) showed no visible influence in this pH range.<BR>2) Fe(III), Fe(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) ions were found to activate PbSO4 flotation at pH 1.0.<BR>3) Flotation tests on composite PbSO4-Fe2O3 samples with or without various heavy metal ions in the feed solutions were successful, resulting in 50% Pb in grade and 85% in Pb recovery for the lead concentrate.
