Laboratory experiments were conducted to analyse the effect of humidity on the development, prey consumption and oviposition of a predacious phytoseiid mite, Amblyseius longispinosus to which the kanzawa spider mite has been exposed. Most of the eggs were unable to hatch at relative humidities below 64% and the hatching rate was slightly low at 76% R . H . in the temperature range of 16°C to 25°C. It is suggested that the period of development of the immature stage of A. longispinosus became shorter at a high humidity. The influence of humidity on the prey (eggs) consumption and oviposition rate of the predator was examined at 25°C and 20°C. On the average, the adult females consumed 15.8 eggs per day at 25°C and 10.4 eggs at 20°C, when exposed to 100% R. H. and the number of eggs consumed decreased slightly with decreasing humidity. The max-imum number of eggs laid per day by a A. longispinosus female was 4.0 eggs at 25°C and 2.5 eggs at 20°C at 100% R. H. and the number was significantly decreased at lower and medium humidities compared with 100% R. H.
