Larvae of the coffee bean weevil, Araecerus fasciculatus, were found feeding and de-veloping within the albedo of citrus fruit in a grove in Kuchinotsu, Japan, for the first time in October 1984. Since all the larvae were detected under or around the lesions of citrus canker in the peel, infestation of this weevil seems to be closely related to the occurrence of the disease. Of the 10 varieties or species of citrus observed in the grove, navel and 6 varieties of oranges; 'Trovita', 'Joppa', 'Parson Brown', 'Valencia', 'Ogasawra' and 'Fukuhara', were infested with the weevil, in particular, navel was severely affected. However Satsuma-mandarin (Citrus unshiu ), Hassaku (Citrus hassaku) and Kawano-natsudaidai (Citrus natsudaidai) were not infested.
