Thirtythree cases with tibial condylar fractures treated in our hospital between 1983 and 1992 were studied. An average follow-up period was 30.2 months. Each fracture was deviled into 6 types according to the classification of Hohl & Luck. Clinical end results were evaluated by functional grade of Hohl & Luck and JOA score. The functional results were acceptable in 90 percent of the cases and an average JOA score was 88.3. The relationship between end results and factors such as age, type of fractures, depression depth, residual depression, therapeutic approach, duration of immobilization and alignment of lower extremity was also evaluated. The factors providing poor results were aging, inadequate reduction of articular surface and prolonged immobilization. Based on this clinical study, anatomical reduction and rigid internal fixation permiting early knee motion are most important in obtaining acceptable results in tibial condylar fractures.
