Arthrodesis of the knee is not commonly used currently by orthopaedic surgeons. During the last 10 years we have treated eight knees with knee arthrodesis. The average age of the patients at the time of the operation was 61.1 years, ranging from 29 to 74 years. The mean follow-up period was one year and 9 months (5 months to 3 years and 4 months in range). We have used the compression method, employings the AO tubular system. In all cases, we obtained satisfactory results. There was fusion in all knees. The fusion process was apparently not delayed in any of the patients.
