This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding glucose containing water on rectal temperature, respiration rate and heat production of commercial male broilers under high temperature from 43 to 47 days of age. Two groups (8 birds/group), which were freely accessible to 4% glucose water solution (Group G) and tap water (Group W) were exposed to 35°C for 3h from 15:00 to 18:00 during trial period.Rectal temperature rose quickly during exposure in Group W whereas it did slowly in Group G, and significant difference was found between the two groups after exposure for 3h. Respiration rate also quickly increased after exposure for 30 minutes in Group G whereas it did slowly in Group W, though there was no significant difference between the two groups. Heat production increased in both groups during heat exposure, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. These results suggest that drinking glucose water may reinforce the supply of energy for panting to maintain heat balance and the increase of water consumption may help the radiation in broiler chickens under high ambient temperature.
