Seven rotary nozzles, each calibrated to spray 10 liters per minutes of disinfectant, were installed on cross-beams (2.0 m high the floor) with intervals of about 10m in 10.0×73.7m windowless cage houses. Two houses were used in experiment. One served as a control and the other as an treatment. In each house, 3, 360 birds of White Leghorn pullets were kept. In treatment, the rotary system of the house was operated for 180 sec. daily at 1p.m. during 32 days from August 1 to September 1. Temperature and relative humidity in the house were recorded. Water intake and water content of droppings of the pullets were also measured.Soon after the operation, temperature in the house was dropped to 28.0°C from 32.6°C. Temperature in the house was lower subsequent 2∼3 hours after spraying than that in the control house. On the contrary, relative humidity was increased to 90% from 63%. However, relative humidity decreased rapidly after termination of the spraying (Fig. 1). Water intake was significantly decreased and water content of droppings was decreased significantly by spraying (Fig. 2, Table 1). The rotary spray system may serve for the improvement of the environmental conditions in the windowless cage houses in summer.
