Viper (Agkistrodon halys) venom contained no less than six components separated by the paper electrophoresis. The distribution of phospholipase A and hemolytic toxin in these protein components was studied by the two-dimensional technique of paper electrophoresis. The venom was first separated electrophoretically in the first direction. Then human red blood cells were applied on the line of the first electrophoresis. After hemolysis occurred, the second electrophoresis was carried out in the second direction, rectangular to the first one. Hemoglobin, which appeared by the hemolysis, migrated towards the second direction, whereas red cells remained on the original line of application.Hemolytic toxin was observed in the region of the component of lowest mobility and phospholipase A in that of faster component than the former.
