Modified LDL was acquired from LDL fractions by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to study its presence related to changes in the aging process and to diabetic and atherosclerotic diseases. Formations of the LDL fraction were classified into 4 types, namely, S, A, N, and D types, wherein the N and D types containing IDL and remnant were regarded as important. Besides, from the relative mobility of the LDL fractions' peak and the LDL fractions' fastest moving site, presence of the small LDL and the fast β-Lp was acquired. There were three findings of the modified LDL. The oxidized LDL (ox-LDL) was present in the N type, D type and abnormal fraction of the fast β-Lp. Changes in the aging process were noted while the N type, D type and fast β-Lp were increasing. Especially a significant difference was notable between those of the 40s and 50s. Similar changes in the aging process can also be noted in T-C and LDL-C, but the former was much more remarkable than the latter. The N and D types were noted less in the LDL fractions of the youngsters (the second graders of the middle school), while the fast β-Lp showed the same or even higher positive rate than that of the 50s, and ox-LDL also showed the same trend as that of the fast β-Lp. The ox-LDL of the youngsters was considered to be heterogeneous compared with the ox-LDL present in the N and D types increasing in the adults. The N and D types of LDL fractions of diabetes mellitus were found much in the proteinuria (+) group, showing significant differences from the healthy ones and the proteinurea (-) group. Compared with those in good health of the 50s, significantly much of the N and D types and small LDL in the atherosclerotic disease group, showing also an increase of those being fast β-Lp positive.
