In order to clarify the properties of photosynthesis and transpiration of a boreal deciduous forest, observations of CO2 and H2O fluxes were carried out over a larch forest canopy in Siberian Taiga. The fluxes have not been detected when leaves have not sprouted yet, while the fluxes in summer showed diurnal change with a peak at noon or just before noon. The observed fluxes in summer suggests that high temperature and high vapor pressure deficit inhibits photosynthetic activity, but the inhibition for transpiration activity is not clear. The seasonal change of fluxes shows that photosynthesis and transpiration activities are rapidly activated at a sprouting period, and gradually inactivated toward the end of summer. In order to remove the influence of meteorological environmental change from the observed fluxes and to evaluate the properties of photosynthesis and transpiration, the parameters, such as the minimum canopy resistance, the chlorophyll density, and the fraction of the PAR availability, are calculated using a canopy single-layer model. The rapid change of each parameter at the sprouting period clearly represents the change of the properties at the sprouting period. It is suggested that there is 2-week activating period after sprouting for the properties of transpiration and photosynthetic activity, while the quantitative property, such as the chlorophyll density, quickly reaches to stationary relatively to other properties.
