The flowering time, pollen morphology and fertility of three <I>Quercus</I> species and their intermediate types were investigated in the mixed stands of <I>Quercus</I> species of the Hiruzen experimental forest of Tottori University and the neighboring stands. The period of flowering of <I>Quercus</I> species in the Hiruzen area was about 30 days. The flowering progressed in the order of <I>Q. mongolica</I> var. <I>grosseserrta</I>> <I>Q. serrata</I> ?? <I>Q. dentata</I>. However, the overlap of the flowering time was found between the trees of late flowering time of <I>Q. mongolica</I> var. <I>grosseserrata</I> and that of early flowering time of <I>Q. serrata</I> and <I>Q. dentata</I>, and between <I>Q. serrata</I> and <I>Q. dentata</I>. It is suggested that interspecific pollination will occur easily, because different species of the same flowering time neighbor in the mixed stand. The size of pollen grains was in the order of <I>Q. dentata</I> > <I>Q. anguste-lepidota</I> ?? <I>Q. takatorensis</I> ?? <I>Q. mongolica</I> var. <I>grosseserrata</I> ><I>Q. serrata</I>. Abnormal pollen grains, namely, giant and empty pollens were observed at a high percentage in ten trees among 96 trees. As the tree of intermediate types showed the pollen germination percentage above 43%, it is concluded that they will be able to mate between the same or other species.
