There are many phenolic compounds in the leaves of Larix leptolepis GORDON during the growing season. One of the primary components was isolated and identified as kaempferol-3-O-glucoside from the results of the UV, IR, Mass spectra, hydrolysis, and other tests. Kaempferol, the aglycone of the glucoside was known as a co-factor of indoleacetic acid oxidase and the following results show that this aglycone and the glucoside have physiological activities. In Avena straight growth test, kaempferol and the glucoside showed growth inhibiting action at 10-5M_??_10-7m, when 1ppm indoleacetic acid was added, while kaempferol and the glucoside had no effect without the addition of indoleacetic acid. In the water culture of Avena, kaempferol and the glucoside stimulated the growth of Avena roots. In the above experiments, kaempferol was more active than the glucoside.
