The bioorigin of the methyl groups of 4'-depropyl-4'-ethyllincomycin has been studied. Using radioactive techniques it was determined that in addition to the -SCH3 and NCH3 groups, the CCH3 present in the amino acid moiety is derived from C1 donors. These results are identical to the findings on the origin of the methyl groups of lincomycin, the main antibiotic produced by Streptomyces lincolnensis.
