Uniaxial Magnetostatic Anisotropy of Assemblies of Single-Domain Particles

The magnetostatic energy was derived theoretically for an assembly in which single-domain particles of rectangular parallelepipeds form a three-dimensional periodic array in a nonmagnetic substance. The present theory predicts that the material of such a magnetic assembly exhibits uniaxial magnetic anisotropy if its external shape is ellipsoidal. It was found that the uniaxial anisotropy energy density of the magnetic assembly according to Néel's model corresponds to a special one of assembly configurations used in the present model. The uniaxial anisotropy constant observed on thin discs of Alnico single crystal was also found to be interpreted well by the present theory.
