A 52-year-old man had a segmental resection of the liver for hepatocellular carcinoma and only one month later a lower lobectomy of the left lung for a pulmonary tumor.
Preoperatively, there was no histopathological proof of whether the pulmonary tumor was primary or metastatic, but the resected tumor was found to be metastatic from the hepatocellular carcinoma.
Resections of pulmonary metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma are very rare. However, in this case partial lobectomy of the lower lung appears to have been quite effective. The patient is still alive and tumor-free one year later.
