We published a paper reporting theoretical possibility of a re-entrant type resonant cavity applicator for deep and concentrated hyperthermia. Thereafter we have been developing fundamental experiments on this applicator. An experiment was firstly carried out with re-entrants touching a phantom but resulted in failure of heating the phantom because of resonnant frequency not confirmed of the cavity applicator.<BR>In subsequent experiments the phantom was heated with air gaps between top of the re-entrants and the phantom and heating was partially performed. Heated positions were not observed at the center of the phantom but observed inconsistently at various parts of the phantom in several heatings. These results are not appropriate for clinical use.<BR>Finally when we heated the phantom under the condition that metal discs were attached on the surface of the phantom with air gaps between the re-entrants and the metal discs, deep and concentrated center position of the phantom was successfully heated.<BR>We concluded that re-entrant type cavity applicator with metal discs attached on the heating material has possibility of effective heating the deep and concentrated center position of the targeted materials.
