Recent Prospecting at the Chichibu Mine

At the Chichibu mine, located in Saitama Prefecture, the earlier prospecting was conducted chiefly in the Daikoku deposit with the result that the geological structure was made clearer, and the problems of structural control gradually became more distinct.<BR>Lately, prospecting has been extended to the Akaiwa and the Doshinkubo deposits, and new ore bodies have been discovered by the application of the theory of the structural control.<BR>The ore deposits of the Chichibu mine are classified into two main types—early stage and late stage. The former is composed of magnetite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, and skarn minerals such as garnet, while the latter mainly consists of sulphide minerals like sphalerite, galena and pyrite.<BR>Prospecting is done mainly by tunneling and core boring, but magnetic prospecting has proved effective for the deposits of the early stage.
