In the sera of embryos and day-old chicks, a specifically fast moving component (FMC) was detected in the pre-albumin fraction. A specifically slow moving component (SMC) was observed in α1-globulin fraction. We have confirmed the FMC and SMC to be α-lipoprotein by two-dimensional crossed cellulose acetate electrophoresis. The α-lipoprotein of embryos and day-old chicks contained lipid in high concentration. Contents of their phospholipid and cholesterol were almost three times as much as those of mature birds. The mobility of α-lipoprotein increased as an increase in the volume of residual yolk and extract of liver added to chick serum. It is concluded that mobility of FMC of the embryo is influenced by the concentrations of phospholipids and cholesterol in α-lipoprotein.
