A simplified model is described. It simulates physiological responses of binaural interaction found in the cat inferior colliculus neurons that are sensitive to interaural phase differences. The model structure is the same as the original one: The model consists of two input axons, each one from each ear, which makes an excitatory synaptic connection onto the binaural cell. In addition there is a crossed collateral presynaptic inhibition from each input. The rules at each synaptic junction are simplified and the time axis is made discrete. By making some approximations, this model is analyzed and a set of equations that define approximate probabilistic input-output relation is derived. The model can simulate the neurons sensitive to the rate or direction of interaural phase change when tested with binaural beat stimuli.
