There are several current and positive trends in acadamic library education. The author maintains that bibliographic instruction as well as library orientation should be part of the library education and complement each other. But bibliographic instruction has not yet been well-established in Japanese Universities. The author summarizes a bibliographic instruction course in a university and compares these findings with a smilar course in other academic settings, seeking suggestions for the improvement of bibliographic instruction. The article ends with some comments on the problems concerning the bibliographic instruction course.
