The emission spectra produced by controlled electron impact on C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6 have been analyzed to gain insight into the production mechanisms of C2(d3Πg) from the three molecules. There are four thresholds on the excitation function of C2(d3Πg) from C2H2. Its vibrational temperatures are 22000 K for C2H2, 30000 K for C2H4 and 56000 K for C2H6 at an electron energy of 100 eV. Doubly-excited states are involved in the dissociative excitation of C2H2.
