A method for obtaining the rate constants for triplet–triplet energy transfer between the same molecular species is presented. It is an improvement on a previously proposed method and comprises an analysis of the phosphorescence decay curve of a mixture of an organic substance and its deuterated homolog. It has been found that the new method gives a good fit to experimental decay curves at 77 and 4.2 K. It was also found that the critical transfer distance between similar molecules is usually smaller than that between differrent molecules.
