The solid–liquid phase diagrams of binary mixtures of water with a series of tetrabutylammonium α-amino carboxylates, (<I>n</I>-C<SUB>4</SUB>H<SUB>9</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>NOOCCH(NH<SUB>2</SUB>)R (R=H, CH<SUB>3</SUB>, C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5</SUB>, <I>n</I>-C<SUB>3</SUB>H<SUB>7</SUB>, and (CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>CH), were examined. It. It was found that all the salts examined could form hydrates with hydration numbers either around 30 or around 39.
