The Preparation of Nitro-Carbonato and -Acetylacetonato Complexes of Cobalt(III) and Their IR and UV Spectra

• Two new nitro complexes of cobalt(III), K<SUB>2</SUB>[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>acac]·H<SUB>2</SUB>O and K<SUB>3</SUB>[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB>]·H<SUB>2</SUB>O, have been prepared by the reaction of tricarbonatocobaltate(III) and the desired ligand. The 700–200 cm<SUP>−1</SUP> region IR spectra for these complexes and the other related dinitro complexes have been measured, and the geometrical structures of these dinitro complexes have been determined as of the <I>cis</I>-form on the basis of the IR data. Furthermore, the absorption spectra of these nitro complexes have also been measured, and the stability of these complexes has been related to the spectral data.
