The absolute infrared absorption intensities have been measured for the <SUP>Q</SUP>R<SUB>0</SUB>(0) line (ν<SUB>3</SUB> fundamental) of methyl fluoride and the <SUP>R</SUP>R<SUB>8</SUB>(9) line (ν<SUB>6</SUB> fundamental) of methyl iodide by the use of CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser lines of P(16) and P(8), respectively. The observed intensities, <I>Γ</I>, were: 12500±4300 cm<SUP>2</SUP>·mol<SUP>−1</SUP> for the ν<SUB>3</SUB> band of methyl fluoride and 1040±40 cm<SUP>2</SUP>·mol<SUP>−1</SUP> for the ν<SUB>6</SUB> band of methyl iodide.
