It is widely accepted that chlorpromazine (CP) exert its blocking effect on autonomic nervous system not only peripherally but also centrally. <BR>It has previously been reported by us that chlorpromazine suppressed the insulin initial hyperglycemia, and also posessed a hypoglycemic action. The present report deals with the effect of CP and chlorprometazine (CPM) on blood sugar in rabbits. <BR>(1) CP has a mild hypoglycemic effect, whereas CPM posessed hyperglycemic action. <BR>(2) CP suppressed the insulin initial hyperglycemia while CPM accentuated it. <BR>(3) CP augmented the hypoglycemic action of insulin, whereas CPM suppressed it. <BR>(4) CP slightly suppressed the hyperglycemic effect of adrenaline. <BR>(5) When CP was administered with CPM simultaneously, a marked hyperglycemia was produced. However, this action was inhibited by pre-treatment of dihydroergotamine.
