1) When the anterior hypothalamus is damaged bilaterally, TRF completely disappears from the body, and cannot easily be recovered thereafter. In a hypophysectomized dog, however, the secretion of TRF from the hypothalamus is conversely enhanced. It is subsequently considered that TRF would be produced in the anterior hypothalamus, and pooled in the posterior lobe of the hypophysis.
2) According to various functional states of the pituitary-thyroid axis, there occurs an remarkable change in the distribution of TRF in the body. In the hyperfunctional states of the axis, the secretion of TRF is increased, resulting in as a consequence the rise of its concentration in blood, spinal fluid, and urine. In the case of the hypofunction, secretion of TRF is decreased.
3) TRF enters the lung via the pulmonary circulation, and then is conveyed throughout the whole body via the systemic circulation. It preponderantly concentrates in the anterior lobe of the hypophysis, and is excreted from the kidney, salivary gland and intestine after several hours.
4) Urinary excretion of TRF is well correlated with the serum level of TRF, but there is no significant relationship between urinary excretion of TRF and urine volume.
5) The dynamic equilibrium and the physiologic function of TRF are shown from the above mentioned,
