This study reviews the cases of 501 in- and out-patients treated at Karasuyama Mental Hospital, affiliated with Showa University since 1979. The patient's current status and emphasis of treatment for schizophrenia and related disorders is reviewed. Also, indices related to psychotic recuperation rates are analyzed. 1) Adaptability to society has been divided into 6 stages on the basis of socialization, along with the general assessment on schizophrenia. Namely, a division was made on comparison of groups of "favorable", "intermediate" and "unfavorable" recuperation. The favorable recuperation group was 13.6%, the intermediate group was 58.7% and the unfavorable was 27.6%. The intermediate group, with the sub-classification of middle-stable and unstable was determined from the average picture of the chronic psychotic state indicated by the results of psychiatric treatment of schizophrenics. This group was divided almost equally between in- and outpatient, implying that administered treatment on this group becomes an important subject in psychiatric rehabilitation. 3) It is not certain whether change in the therapeutic method influenced the recuperation rate of schizophrenics, but the effect can be seen in the increase in the intermediate group. The effect also brings out the decrease in catatonictypes and increase in hebephrenics. 4) On factors related to prognosis of typical groups of schizophrenics, no significent relationship was recognized either way. Hereditary predisposition was 4`x.9 % of the total, but this and prognosis are largely irrelevant to one another. Among the hereditarilly predisposed group, dominance complexes accounted for 22.8%, inferiority complexes, 70.6% and intermediate dillusions, 6.6%. However, between dominance and inferiority, there was no significant difference in final prognosis.
