The serum complement level was examined by Mayer's 50% hemolytic method in 85 patients with bronchial asthma, in comparison with 18 healthy adults and 36 patients with renal disease and SLE.<BR>The conclusions were as follows.<BR>1. There was no significant difference in the serum complement levels of bronchial asthma at the time of no attack and healthy adults.<BR>2. Serum complement levels were low in the case of non atopic, but there was no significant difference between the positive and negative in the immediate skin test.<BR>3. Serum complement levels in the patients with the positive reaction of the Arthus or delayed type skin test showed no significant difference from those of the controls. The late or dual type reactors of the bronchial inhalation test also did not show any significant changes in the serum complement levele.<BR>4. No significant changes were found in the serum complement levels, C3 and C4, at the time before and after inhalation test.<BR>5. Asthmatic patients had a high complement level during the asthmatic attack, especially, elevation of C4 was statistically significant.<BR>6. Some decrease of T-cell subpopulation was found in the many asthmatic patients.
