The relationship between visuo-ocular reflex (ViOR) and vestibulo-ocular reflex (VeOR) has been investigated vigorously in recent years. Clinically, ViOR is related to optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) and VeOR to rotating nystagmus (RN), the chair accelerating or decelerating 2°/s2 in these experiments. With a Miyoshi, Shirato device the visual field was divided into peripheral, foveal and hemianopsic areas. In the former two a visual arc 30° in diameter and in the last a central foveal region 30° in diameter was covered in half of the visual field.ViOR and VeOR were applied simultaneously in the same subjects.1) ViOR was assisted by VeOR, only when both directions were the same, regardless of whether whole visual, foveal, peripheral or hemianopsic OKN was.2) ViOR was hindered by VeOR, when their directions were opposite under all the above conditions.
