The skin is recognized to be a particularly important potential source of infection. Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis were major skin flora and were considered to cause infection due to intraarticular injections. The germicidal effects of three skin disinfectants were reexamined at 20±1°C on Propionibacterium acnes, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. 1, Hibiscrub and Isokine were effective. 1, 0.5% Hibitane gluconate needed more than one minute of application time for perfect disinfection.
