Clinical Investigation of the Wedge Osteotomy of the Radius for Kienboeck's Disease.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors affecting the result and clinical problems of wedge osteotomy of the radius for Kienboeck's disease. Fourteen cases of Kienboeck's disease, which had follow-up period of more than one year, were reviewed. The important factor affecting the result was the stage of the disease, that is, case of stage I, II or III-A got good result. The second factor was the wedge angle of the osteotomy, that is, 12-18 degrees of wedge osteotomy was best in clinical evaluations. On the other hand factors such as the carpal height ratio, the carpal ulnar distance ratio, the radioscaphoid angle, or the radial inclination did not affect the result significantly. In conclusion, wedge osteotomy of the radius is attractive choice for the treatment of Kienboeck's disease.
