Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has recently become a serious clinical problem. We experienced two cases of MRSA infections after spinal surgery. We investigated the local environment to assess where the infection originated from in an effort to make the cause of infection clear and consider appropriate countermeasures. Before the spinal surgery was carried out, making needles were inserted on the spinal processes as landmarks in the word's treatment room. Subsequently we found that the incidence of MRSA from fingers of 21 nurses working in the ward was 66.7% and we also detected MRSA in the treatment room. We suspect that the treatment before surgery was the cause of the MRSA infection.
