There has been a recent increase in the number of males working under the same labor conditions as females. The male childcare workers certainly upset the image people expect of"childcare workers." Since females and nursery directors aren't used to working with males, they consider that males in the field are unnecessary or that they would act contrarily to expectations. How do males actually respond to these expectations? When carrying out childcare work, how does males' "childcare worker" concept change? A qualitative investigation analysis can provide the answer.<BR>The result of the analysis shows that the definition of the "male childcare worker" concept actually progresses through three phases, which are separated by the degree of experience. The first phase is that males beginning work as childcare workers are considered as substitutes for domestic parents. The second phase is that males with several years of experience become childcare workers who provide a masculine viewpoint, in order to correct the gender bias. In the third phase, very experienced males are no longer identified by their gender, but simply as"childcare workers".
