An attempt has been made to measure the bulkiness of slivers by using the frictor which was used as a detector of the thickness irregularity of slivers. Major results obtained are :
1) When a sliver is inserted into the frictor, with its both ends tied to the frictor's ends, and turned around inside the frictor, the dynamic drawing force of the sliver against the frictor decreases with each turn and a decreasing curve is obtained. We call this curve a "bulkness curve a of sliver".
2) The method of testing and evaluation have been established by means of the frictor.
3) The factors affecting the bulkness of a sliver have been investigated in terms of fiber orientation, fiber length and fineness.
4) The properties of bulkness of synthetic fibers, natural fibers and their blends have been compared.
