Frictional coefficients of Terylen fibers treated with some cationic softeners have been measured and the relation between the chemical constitution of the cationic surface active agents and their frictional behavior has been observed. Cationic surface active agents studied in this experiment are salts of aliphatic amices, and the measurement has been made by the method described by H. L. Rider.<BR>The experimental results are discussed from the following stand points:<BR>(1) Effect of the chain length of fatty acid forming salts with amines.<BR>(2) The difference among primary, secondary and tertiary amines.<BR>(3) Effect of the number of long-chain aliphatic groups in amines.<BR>(4) The difference between C12 and C18 amines.<BR>(5) Interaction between the chain lengths of amines and those of salt-forming acids.<BR>(6) Effect of substitution of hydrogen combined to nitrogen atom of amine.
